Discover a rich and diverse culture in cosmopolitan Amman during CIEE’s May Middle East Studies program. During three weeks, you’ll take a course on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, participate in cultural activities ranging from soccer to traditional dance, visit important archaeological and natural sites, and engage with local Jordanian people. You’ll return home with a rich and multi-faceted understanding of Jordanians and the Middle East region as a whole.

You’ll take modern standard and colloquial Arabic courses, then head out into the city to give your new skills a whirl. From bargaining in the medina to visiting fascinating ruins and colonial architecture, taking part in activities like cooking classes to living with a Moroccan family, we help you experience it all.

Whether your Arabic is basic or advanced, the CIEE Summer Moroccan Studies study abroad program is designed to help you develop your Arabic language skills and learn firsthand about contemporary Morocco.

Through language study, or an innovative course that explores Morocco’s rich history and culture, and a variety of opportunities for cultural engagement, you will improve your Arabic while gaining greater insight into present-day Moroccan society.

This program examines human rights, religion, politics, and cultural diversity in Morocco contextualized within the broader region and beyond. You will consider Morocco’s cultural, historical, and ecological diversity and the role Morocco has played — historically and to the present day — in relation to Africa and Europe. A particular focus on gender issues includes looking at women’s roles in contemporary Moroccan society and Moroccan feminism.
