Dr. Mary Lee Webeck serves as the Holocaust and Genocide Education Endowed Chair - Celebrating the Life of Survivor Naomi Warren at The Boniuk Center for the Future of Holocaust, Human Rights and Genocide Studies at Holocaust Museum Houston (HMH). Mary Lee served as the Director of Education at HMH from 2006 – 2020. At HMH, Mary Lee aspires to rid our world of prejudice, hatred and apathy, while inspiring personal responsibility and community engagement. Prior to joining the Museum, Mary Lee served on the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin and Purdue University and taught in public schools. She now facilitates a Title 6 grant project at Indiana University focused on genocide in the Middle East. She continues to work with the University of Houston, developing and teaching courses related to social justice and about museum practice. Mary Lee is engaged as a board member of several institutions. She advocates for justice, inclusion and equity, the fundamental importance of the arts, and educational innovation in museum practice. Mary Lee returns to her long-term passion for civic and law-focused education as she asks a question inspired by one of her heroes, the poet, feminist, and activist Audre Lorde, “What do we do with the power we have?”
